So I used to be really good at posting on here when I had a job where I had nothing to do all day. Then I got a big girl job, and the posts stopped coming, but today I find myself with some down-time and I figured I could catch you up.
Since my last post I have done a 5K, a 3.5miler and two half-marathons... there was a 5miler in there too, but I was deathly ill and unable to compete on race day. Big bummer, because it's on St. Patricks day and I was really looking forward to it.
The 5k:
About 99% of the reason I skip runs is that I cannot run hungover. However, this all changed as I ran the Lilac Festival 5K. I did have to literally be dragged out of bed by my roommates (who were suprisingly more awake than I even though we all made the terrible mistake of celebrating our friend's birthday and eat pizza at 3am and and and), but we made it. And we were late. True story. The race started as we were still walking to the starting line. Luckily there were enough people that we actually started with the last of the walkers. It was pretty tough to squeeze through those guys, but once we got out there, we were golden. I ran it with my second best race time ever. Go figure. Maybe I'll start running all races hungover?... okay I won't go that far since part of the motivation for finishing was that I needed to vomit (which I didn't). Following this race, my roommates and I went up to the lake for the March of Dimes March for Babies. It was a nice little 2-mile walk at a snail's pace, so it was the perfect cool down.
The 3.5miler:
Otherwise known as the Corporate Challenge. I ran this with my co-worker who had never run a race before and she said she needed me to push her. So I did. And I felt good about myself. My time was right around 40 minutes. I can't give an exact because the dumb race doesn't use a chip and of course I don't own a watch.
Half-Marathon #1:
Unity Health Flour City Half-Marathon
Worst decision I have ever made in my life. No, seriously. I wanted to give up and quit at so many points that day. Three miles of this race was spent in a cemetary. I wanted to lay down and die right there. The number of hills was outrageous. I was so mad at myself for wanting to do this.
Once it was all done though, I was so happy I completed my goal. Check that off the bucket list. And then I couldn't walk for a week and hated myself for participating all over again.
Half-Marathon #2:
Buffalo Marathon (and half-marathon and relay)
If I hadn't registered before half-marathon #1 I would not have registered for this. My roommate felt the same way, since she had done the Rochester one with me as well. So we decided ahead of time that we were not going to try. We were going to run/walk this thing and take pictures at all of the mile markers and make a fun day out of it.
Which we did. And I LOVED it. So much so, that I'm already researching what I want my next race to be.
So, I haven't run since the last race (which was May 29) except in my softball games last week (I'm playing Tuesday and Wednesday nights this summer). Turns out, not stretching was the worst idea, and I am having trouble crossing my legs today due to stiffness. Also, after running so much in May you would think I wouldn't be winded running to first base... you would be wrong.
That's all for now.
XOXO
